Hello... welcome to BUTTERFIELDs of New South Wales, my name is Peter Butterfield.
Not so long ago I began to research my family history. Like many others, I had became bewildered at how little knowledge there was of our origins among our current generations. With such a short history in this country, I wondered why we had forgotten so quickly who had started our story here.
And so began the task of retracing our steps by examining BUTTERFIELD records available through publicly accessible sources.
Fortunately for me, my line had been quite parochial with few venturing far from Sydney since they arrived. This made my job relatively simple by containing my research to NSW sources in the main.
As BUTTERFIELD is a reasonably rare name compared to some, it wasn't long before I had assembled quite a comprehensive database of most BUTTERFIELDs who have been documented as arriving, living or working in NSW during its first 150 years or so.
This site makes much of that information available for anyone who might be interested in it. Just go to the RESOURCES page to find out more.
The convention I have tried to adopt with this site is to only publish information that exists elsewhere in the public domain in some form or other.
Further details exist for some of the individuals listed, particularly those appearing on the FAMILY page, and may be made available by contacting the writer via the Message Board.
Equally, if you consider that there is any information missing, inaccurate, or possibly shouldn't appear here for some reason, by all means let me know.
So take a look around and enjoy your stay. I hope you find someone you're looking for.
